Dr. Melinda Barnard

Melinda is a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in social science and the ethnographic studies on large energy infrastructures such as airports.

My current PhD research focuses on the intersection of development, infrastructure, energy, environment and economics through an anthropological lens by exploring the shifts in worldview that have led to the adoption of green technologies by corporations and institutions, and their developmental sustainability across the Global South. This is done through comparative research on the move from conventional grid-dependency to solar energy in large-scale infrastructure projects (such as airports) through green capitalism.
